Here's what's happening in the world of me.

Work is much the same. It's a little frustrating right now because as usual the Midwestern weather is not conducive to scheduling a/c appointments- I've got about 50 people that need to schedule maintenance appointments for and we really can't do them until it's over 65 and not raining.

We're nearing the end of the hockey season. The home team is doing well at the moment and I hope they stay hot for a while. I'm really looking forward to our first series, it looks to be good hockey if nothing else.

Fandom-wise, I've jumped into "The Handmaid's Tale." I haven't read the book although I have it on Kindle. I'm not sure if I like it or not. I think I'm hoping that everyone gets what they deserve, but it can be hard to watch and a little closer to foreshadowing the path we could be on than I'd like.

I've broken out the coloring books lately as my pastime when the hockey game is on- I used to do logic puzzles, but I worked through most of them in the last book I had and haven't bothered to get a new one.

Mom and I went to see "Everything Everywhere All At Once". I really enjoyed it. It's kind of funny that the male lead is the same kid that played Short Round in "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" and Data in "The Goonies" (and he was really great in it.) It'll make you see an "everything" bagel in a different light.

That's all for now. Hope you all are doing well.

Happy March! It's beautiful weather here in the Midwest right now and it's going to be closing in on 75 tomorrow- makes me wonder how many a/c calls I'll get at work. All that is good because I went out of the building to enjoy the sunshine and fresh air today at lunchtime and when I got back my passenger side window would not roll up. Yikes. I had a similar problem when I first got the car so hopefully it's a fairly easy (and inexpensive) fix.

Still the sun is shining and nothing too allergy-producing is flying around yet, so that's good.

I did my weigh-in today and the last couple of weeks may have done me in because I'm up a pound. I'm only doing it once a month because I'm not a fan of the up and down (I will do it this month on the 13th and 15th just for fun.)

Prodigal Son fans- did you know there's a virtual season on Ao3? Scripts for each episode are being added every Monday. There are three episodes so far, so if you're a fan of the show, check it out.

Is anyone watching "Resident Alien"? It's the only show I'm really dedicated to right now. So good.

I'm a bit bummed that the baseball season won't start on time, but it's something that I could see coming when the owners were so inflexible about things last year. Oh well, at least the hockey season is still rolling.

That's it for me. Hope you all are well.

Saw the news that 'Prodigal Son' has been cancelled. What a shame. There are very few shows where I'll be interested enough to watch on a consistent basis (and fewer still that I'd interrupt a hockey game for), but this was one of them.

I'll miss it.

Tonight's episode was so good. The case of the week was kind of meh, but the rest of the wackiness was a lot of fun.

Watch it and then come talk to me in the comments.

Not going to say anything else, but if anyone wants to discuss in the comments, I'm all for it.

So I was looking at the Parade magazine this morning that comes with the Sunday paper and, in one of their little celebrity capsules, they were interviewing Sean Bean. Here's the relevant part:

Q: Your next project is for the BBC, called Time. What's that about?
A: Mark Hebden's a schoolteacher and secret drinker. One night he has too many vodkas at the pub, hits a cyclist, and his whole world changes. It's a harrowing tale about a man who's not used to this kind of environment (in prison) and gets thrown in with the wolves. Very hard-hitting, very brutal, but very heart-rending at the same time.

OMG, you guys, the Brits have remade OZ and Sean Bean is Beecher.

(Now I just need to figure out how to get BBC)

Caught "Prodigal Son" tonight on FOX. Been a while since I've taken a shot on anything new but this looked like it could be fun. It's got a bit of a "Silence of the Lambs" vibe going (if Clarice was Hannibal Lechter's kid). The ever-charming Michael Sheen plays the imprisoned serial killer. I don't watch much TV so I didn't know the leading man from anywhere (Tom Payne, who some folks may know from The Walking Dead), but I found him interesting enough to buy into and it's fun to watch him skirt the edge of madness. Lou Diamond Phillips has a small part as a NYPD higher-up and the actress that played Mellie on "Scandal" plays the lead's mother. It's going to be a "case of the week" type show, but I'm looking forward to watching the father-son relationship play out from week to week.

I'm going to be watching "The Routine" again. It never fails to amaze me how many different things I can find to write about for that one episode. Fic coming soon.

Sitting at home right now waiting for what TV seems to think is "the storm of the century" to come through. We live in the Midwest, why are we surprised or even impressed by storms at this point? There wasn't this overreaction when I was a kid. Sirens went off, you went downstairs, that was it. Now there's up-to-the-second information. Glad they're just pre-empting golf (I think they've learned their lesson about pre-empting hockey).

Been jonesing to write lately or work on the NaNo project that may wind up going into Year Three (it won't be a bad thing and filling in the blank spaces continues to be a good idea). I just haven't been particularly motivated- yes, I know I do have two delicious prompts for the Oziversary just waiting.

Another hockey season is coming to an end. I wasn't sad about how things turned out for the Blues, particularly since I wasn't sure they'd make the playoffs to begin with. My sister & I are going to the NHL draft in Chicago in another month so that'll be fun.

Haven't seen any movies since "Kong: Skull Island", which I liked. TV for me consists mostly of playoff hockey and the occasional episode of "Gotham", which had it's best episode of the season this past week- I could watch an entire hour of just Ed and Oswald. They are pretty funny together. The whole Court of Owls storyline has to go.

So that's it for me right now. I will try to post more frequently, although I seem to say it and then two+ months passes by before I post again. I miss throwing words into the void on a daily basis though. TTFN.

Went to see the movie "Carol" today. I'm a big Todd Haynes fan, so I might be a little biased, but it was very good. The acting was dead on, the story didn't drag too hard into sentimentality, and the cinematography was beautiful.

slight spoiler here )

I also was able to get my library card renewed, so I'm not going to be spending a fortune on books and DVD rentals for a while. First up is binge-watching season one of "Orange is the New Black" which I have been meaning to see, but haven't got around to it yet. I really wish my library had copies of "The Wire" but maybe I can find it elsewhere and get it transferred over. I also picked up a book called "The Incarnations" which is about soulmates across time and sounded like fun.

Hockey game tonight. Blues and Nashville. Can't wait.

I'm trying to bust through a little light writer's block so I was going through some old prompting posts I'd saved & found one from Small Fandom Fest 2009 for OZ which was "Beecher/Keller, your shirt". Here's what it generated. This is set after a Season 6 in which Keller lived and somehow managed to get out of prison and live happily ever after with Toby (see? crack!fic)

Keller wrapped his arms around Beecher, holding him close.

“It’s not fair,” Beecher said.

“I know, baby.”

“It’s one of those things where we were there from the beginning and it was good, right? It was good.”

“The beginning was good,” he said, pulling Beecher in for a kiss.

“And then all that shit went down and things fell apart.”

“Right.” Keller rolled his eyes.

“But, but, they were together. Finally. After all the shit they went through,” Beecher sniffed. “And they were together with the kissing and the making up and…” Beecher started sobbing again.

Keller handed him a tissue.

Beecher wiped his eyes. “I hate Joss Whedon.”

Summer of Oz is drawing to a close. I've had a great time seeing what everyone has created. And now we'll have a couple months to recharge before Magi starts up again. ;)

I have entered the age of technology, finally turning in my flip phone for an actual smartphone. I doubt I've even tapped its capabilities, but I like what I've seen so far.

Does anyone else watch "Murder in the First"? The guy playing Sugar Cascade is giving Taye Diggs a run for his money. That could be some slashy fun there. Sadly, each season seems to be a standalone so I don't hold much hope to see Cascade in 2016.

One week from now I'll be in beautiful Lincoln Nebraska (ok, the verdict is actually out on that one) and on my way to South Dakota for a week's vacation. I still have some planning to do, but most of the things are set. I'll try to post some pics as we make our way along. They won't all be of hockey arenas, I promise.

Fellow Ozzites, has anyone else seen the 12 Monkeys trailer for this week's episode? It's pretty funny.

Haven't seen the show yet (although I've seen the movie) and now I'm intrigued.

Spent the last couple of days at home due to the nasty (ice, snow, cold) weather. Work was actually cancelled yesterday and since they were shortening the day today and presumably not sending anyone out, it seemed a little silly to have to be there.

Haven't written anything recently, but I'm thinking of doing a few drabbles for the [livejournal.com profile] halfamoon community. Things based on female characters, more in fitting with canon. Suggestions are welcome.

Thank you, [livejournal.com profile] michele659 for the very cute puppy, who will keep me thinking warm thoughts until spring training gets here!

Still making my way through the DVD of the first season of "Justified". Have to finish the last two episodes by next Wednesday's season 2 premiere. I'm looking forward to it.
