Steve Yzerman retired this year. I think that's when I felt it - my adolescent crush - back when I didn't really know anything about anything. I was 14 & he was an 18 year old hockey god. So I've been saying for the past 10 years or so that I'm not going to start feeling old until Stevie Y retires. And before anybody thinks I'm about to join the legions in "Hockeytown", let me just say that I despise the Red Wings. That's lessened a bit with the lockout and all but I still am a lot happier when they lose (and the Hawks & Blues win, of course). I was looking at a very old tape of a Hawks-Blues game and it was amazing - guys like Secord, Savard, Larmer for the Hawks, Hull, Zezel, and Cavallini for the Blues. Ages ago before Bettman came in and destroyed the league - the one blessing about not seeing the end of the finals this year was that I didn't have to see that short smug s.o.b. on the ice, acting pretty much like Governor Devlin on that one television show that I like. (no, not "Firefly" or "American Gothic").
I've been a little nostalgic the past couple of days so I pulled out some of the old episodes of "Behind the Screen", a Chicago cable access soap that I had the privilege to write for for a few months (in conjunction with school - they only let us have a few semesters). I had to stop it before the scene that I consider the "donut scene." Jack & Trey cuddling in some morning after bliss before it turns all angst-ridden and fun in a different way (at least for the writer). But the one line that I cut that I still remember because it was just part of my "blissful goofiness" at the beginning of the scene was "I got donuts." Somehow the idea of that was just silly and possibly due to unleash some weird donut fetish on the world which I didn't want to be responsible for. The writing as a whole was a little heavy handed - subtle as a freight train (it seems to work with the Oz fic though) - and the acting, with a few exceptions, looked like it was done by college students.
I got my first birthday card for the year today, from my aunt who I will be seeing in a few days. She's very cool. I hope I can be with my niece the way my aunt has been for me. It's a nice card, all about birthday wishes. Very sweet.
I drew Bellinger today. I'm not quite sure what Shirley means, but I guess it was better than Omar.
They're having trouble with the runways at LAX. Should I be paranoid?
No quotes today. Got home kind of late and I'm a bit tired so it's time for bed (unless I tuck in and start episode 4.) Oh. Keller. Better not then. That's something that requires more attention than I have to give at this moment.
The way I'm acting, you'd think that I was going to be leaving for months instead of just 4 days.
