In your own space, put some favorite characters into an AU, fuse some favorite canons together, talk about your favorite AU/fusion tropes, or tell us why AU/fusions aren’t your cup of tea. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

It might not technically qualify as an AU, but I do like canon divergence fics. There's so many what-ifs when it comes to fandom that it's nice to take the opportunity to ask those questions whether it involves a character death or a relationship or a major event that goes a different way (what if they riot in season three rather than season one of OZ?)

Some of my favorite AU tropes:

De-aging- Particularly when the character that's de-aged is the one usually taking charge

Soulmates- I'm a sucker for any variation of a soulmate fic that exists- name on the wrist (or elsewhere), telepathy, vision going from monochromatic to color, etc.

AUs I don't care for:

Non-magic variations of magical universes- So you wrote a story about a few kids navigating the pitfalls of school and you've decided they're the gang from Harry Potter. But no magic. It just gives me the feeling that you wrote a story and changed the names. Same thing with "Game of Thrones" modern setting AU. (Full disclosure, I have written this once for a prompt, no I am not sorry).

Coffee shop AUs- bore the pants off me (but I've written one of these too)

A/B/O - like the dynamics, but the sex is a bit off-putting

School/university AUs - unless the series is set in a school, I really don't want to read them (Again, I've written at least one for a prompt, but the one I'm thinking about would have tied back into canon eventually)

Favorite AUs I've written

The Moments 'Verse - a series of ficlets where Ryan O'Reily escapes Oz and winds up on Serenity (OZ/Firefly)

Slayer on a Mission - where Kendra survives and goes to find Faith in Season 7 (Buffy the Vampire Slayer)

The White Rabbit of Unit B - de-aging! - an experimental aging drug testing program (yes, this was actually in canon) goes awry and the leader of the Aryans winds up getting de-aged (OZ)
