This & that
Aug. 1st, 2019 09:09 pmChecking in. How's everyone doing? Been a while since I've done one of these. When I last popped in, the Blues had just won the Stanley Cup which is actually more about them than about me, but considering how invested in them I am, it's also kind of about me. It's still weird to try to wrap my mind around it.
So, I've been trying to get more pro-active about my health this year. I do a weight training class one day a week that I really like even though it can be challenging and, at times, painful, I know the benefits outweigh the momentary sore muscles. I got myself a primary care physician and, after a little bit of a worrisome moment, a gynecologist.
( health stuff, possibly TMI )
Long story short, I'm the healthiest I've been in a long time.
And yet, I still took a sick day today. Work has gotten pretty bad. I still enjoy the work itself but it would be nice for some people to actually be constructive when a challenge presents itself instead of alienating most of the department. We had a visit from the State that didn't go well recently and management wants to dwell on that instead of the 34 jobs that we have to complete by the end of next month - on a good month, we can do about 12. So when my boss sent an e-mail that he wanted to have a department meeting today at 4pm (after the department meeting we had last week where he seemed fairly reasonable, while telling us that he wasn't going down with the ship), I just thought "eff that" because I knew it was just going to be yelling about the report from the State (which everyone feels needs to be addressed immediately, rather than the 45 days they are giving us).
Other stuff - I saw the movie "Yesterday" with my parents back around the 4th of July. It was pleasant. My choir sang the National Anthem at the Cardinals game last week. Been to a lot of funerals recently - my mom's brother-in-law, a friend's mom, and my dad's sister-in-law - all died within 2 weeks of each other. I'm ten days away from 50 and planning a trip to Wisconsin next month. That's about it for now. I'll make more of an effort to check in so that it's not diarrhea of the keyboard next time.
